Myth #1: Slot machines are random. Just because the machine just paid off, don't think that it's impossible for it to pay out again fairly soon. Reversely, don't think that just because a machine hasn't paid out in a while, that it is going to pay you off soon.

Myth #2: Slot machines can be "figured out." This is completely wrong. Slot machines use advanced random number generators to ensure that this doesn't happen.

Myth #3: Slot machines are the worst games to play at a casino. Not true, slot machines can be quite fun if you just have fun with it!

"Slot Machines are the worst gamble at a casino"

There are plenty worse gamblers in the casino. Take a stroll down to the keno lounge or wheel of fortune, make some of the high percentages bets at craps, make idiot plays at blackjack, bet a parlay at the sports book. An average loose machine pays better than roulette. Next time a friend tells you how bad your odds are at the slots, hear a little more about what they play and bets they make. You may be getting the better end of the bargain.
 

"Pulling the handle a certain way will make you a winner"

Whether or not you pull the handle slowly, quickly, gently, or roughly will not alter your probability of winning. Pushing the "spin reel" button as opposed to pulling the handle won't change you luck either. You either win or lose depending upon how the luck goes and the little twirls and shuffles you might do to get the winner going won't make a difference, not mathematically, not in reality.

"Slot machine managers know when certain machines are due to pay out"

If a slots manager knew a machine was about to spit out the sweet land of milk and honey, believe me, you wouldn't be the one playing the machine. You'd be watching his or her mother, spouse, or other family member out at that machine.


"If I had pulled the handle instead of pushing the spin button, I would have hit something big!"

Whether you press the spin button or pull the handle has no bearing on the outcome of a spin. The handle is nothing more than a connection to the switch that operates the spin button.


"If I had only played that machine a little longer!”

Because of the random number generators located in all modern slot machines, the possible symbol combinations are constantly changing. To achieve the same results, both players would have had to hit the spin button at the exact same millisecond (that's 1/1000 of a second).


"This machine is about to hit a HOT cycle!"

Every outcome is random and is not dependant on previous outcomes.


"That machine just hit. I'd better find another machine, because this one isn't going to pay again anytime soon."

Although the laws of probability dictate that the longer a machine is played, the closer it gets to paying off a jackpot, it is equally likely that a jackpot could hit at any time, including the next spin.
